Is there an easy way of memorising the first 20?

One good way would be to become familiar with what group that an element is in. For example, learn that helium and neon are the lightest inert gases, or that lithium and sodium are the lightest alkali metals. Then learn where they would be located on the periodic table. This will help out better than rote memorisation as the nature of the elements will be learned as well.

The easiest way is just remember that the first two are Hydrogen and Helium that complete the first layer of the table.

Lithium, Beryllium, Boron, Carbon, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Fluorine, and Neon make up the next six the second layer of the table.

Sodium, Magnesium, Aluminum, Silicon, Phosphorus, Sulfur, Chlorine, and Argon make up the next six and the third layer of the table.

The last two of your 20 are the first two of the fourth layer: Potassium and Calcium. But why stop there? Memorize the remaining 16 elements of the fourth layer.

I have my chemistry students memorize all 110 elements. You can too. Just add the next five or so each week. Memorize the correct spelling and symbols. No big deal.

It is just 20. You can do it:
1. Hydrogen
2. Helium
3. Lithium
4. Berylium
5. Boron
6. Carbon
7.Nitrogen
8. Oxygen
9. Fluorine
10. Neon
11. Sodium
12. Magnesium
13. Aluminum
14. Silicon
15. Phosphorus
16. Sulfur
17. Chlorine
18. Argon
19. Potassium
20. Calcium

Easiest way is to draw 8 columns for the groups. And memorized the neighbors of each element.

Asking someone that would want to be sensible you is the right aspect to do, no longer telling someone to do your job. besides, i will help you out with the first one, some thing else you'll do all by using your self. A.) Any aspect which variety a 2+ ion? All aspects in crew 2A periodic table variety 2+ effective fee, it truly is Cations (effective fee) What are the aspect in crew 2A? Berrylium, Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium, and Radon. There you go, I gave you each and every of the elements which have 2 valence electrons interior the outer shell.

The only easy way is to just do it. You will probably only have to do it once in your life for a test. I am a chemist and I don't know the first 20 in order but I can look it up.

Gene Frequency is SOOO Correct, mnemonics or the use of words and sentences to memorize things really works, try this:

King = Kingdom
Phillip = Phylum
Came = Class
Over = Order
For = Family
Good = Genus
Sex = Species

See, you won't forget that for a while, simply because it was funny. Make up your own, or look for them on the net.

Make a song or poem out of the letters or words from the table. Use 'trigger words' that relate to each element. Stuff is always easier to remember if in a song. I bet you know some of your favorite songs by heart...every word, right?

Something like this:
Poem: ----- Element:
-------- ---- --------
Harry ----- Hydrogen
Liked ----- Lithium
Betty ----- Berylium
... ...
... ...

hope this helps...

Start by memorizing the first 4. Then add 2. Then add the next two.....etc.
