Yep that's your best bet, buy another cage. OR rig up a camera to actually film how the hamster is getting out, then fix the 'security hole'

Other than that, I would just go to your local pet supply store, and ask somebody there for suggestions on a more secure cage

You need to get a different cage! Hamsters are very persistent and if there is a way out they will find it. They can even gnaw on wires until they are loose and escape. They can cause quite a bit of damage if they get loose - and they can get trapped! We had a Hamster named Annie that got trapped in the furnace duct! We could hear her running back and forth! Poor thing - when we got her out she was extremely hot and thirsty!
When Annie had babies we gave one to the school - which they aptly named Houdini! Houdini escaped at the school and he was gone for a long time. They eventually found him inside one of the student's Cello! Unfortunately, not before he did quite a bit of damage to the Cello - he gnawed all over the opening and had made himself a very comfortable nest inside! So - yes - invest in another cage!!!

What kind of cage do you have? Does it have tubes? Are they all connected correctly? Does it have a look out on top of the cage and the lid isn't shut tight? A hamster can get out of a hole the size of a dime. Check your cage and see if you can find where it is getting out and if you don't have a cage that was made for a hamster, then get one!

everyone i know with a hamster says that they are always trying to get out of the cage or bite the cage or something. i think that what you need to do is take a paper clip or two and make them both flat. then you wrap them around the little door thing to that way when they try to push it or raise it up, it won't budge. it might work or it might not but its something that u can do around the house and its harmless to the animal!

Keep cage gate closed at all times. I used to treat my hamster like a pet dog...cage gate opens after 10pm, it's free to roam as it returns to cage by morning and gate closes at 7am. Was a perfect routine till my mom had our house main door open. It went out the wrong door. Dont trust it 100%, no matter how innocent it looks!!!

back in the days of slavery, the punishment for trying to escape was getting their foot cut off. think about it.
