No. There has been an incorrect E-mail circulating saying Mars will be closer to Earth than ever in August. Mars WAS close in August, 2003, but it just looked like a bright star. Mars never gets close enough to Earth to appear as big as the Moon. Never.

No, absolutely not! Three years ago Mars came closer to Earth than it had in the last 60,000 years. On August 27, 2003 it was only 34,646,418 miles from Earth, but even then it didn't even come close to looking as large as the moon. Next month, Mars will be about 48,000,000 miles from Earth.

Of course it wont...but it will be cool to see. The next time that mars will be closer to earth than this year's occurs in 2287. I don't know about you, but I don't think i'll be around to see it...so I guess I'll have to try and get a look at it this time lol

even though Mars is bigger than the Moon, it is way to far away to look any way near as big as the moon
