Some cultures are just not suited for that type of governemment. Our idea that happiness of owning two cars and an HDTV is really not the things that other people's foremost desires. Our (US) style of democracy will only work for us Americans - because we are diversified with the right combination of cultures, and because we have the resources and the right environment to practice that type lifestyle.

I agree with you 100%. The only viable answer I have ever heard that made me think perhaps spreading it was good, was that some of those cultures would seek to change our democracy (similar to terrorism).

I agree that not everywhere needs to be the US. That's why we're a separate country, not the whole world.

Democratic nations tend not to go to war with each other which is why the UN promotes the idea. I live in a democracy in Canada. I don't own any cars or an HDTV nor have any desire to. There is not just one form of democracy by the way.

Anyway, relax. Yes, some cultures are not suited to that type of government, but democracy is the lesser of all evils. Although having lived in the benevolent police state called Japan for over two decades, I'll say their form of democracy has some advantages--low taxes, better economic opportunity BUT also some HUGE drawbacks.

There's both good and bad in every form of govt.

I agree that expecting most cultures to take on democracy is a little delusional ... but history shows that democracies are less belligerent and less likely to go to war than dictatorships. That's the reason, in a nutshell.

Give people more rights, and they will want to spend their time - and their country's time - gaining wealth for themselves rather than fighting the next guy over for some stupid reason. Self-interest always outruns foolishness, every time.
