My 10 year old step daughter recently received the wonderful gift of braces, (about two weeks ago) and is throwing a fit because I told her she should opt out of the rice crispie treats. I told her no one would eat them in front of her, and we are trying to be sensitive to the fact she can't have as many treats. But...does anyone know if rice crispie treats actually are off limits?

If they are soft, yes she can. I had braces. Just make sure she brushes and flosses a few times a day. She really has to take care of her teeth while wearing braces. So much stuff can collect around braces and plaq can build up around them easily if she doesn't floss a few times a day and cause serious problems for her, when she gets her braces off, where the brace was will be white and the area around that will be discolored. If the braces start poking her gums, you can buy wax for braces at wal mart by the floss and toothpaste and she can make a little ball and put it on the brace that is poking her.

I still ate them when I had braces. I don't think there was much of anything I didn't eat. I would slice my apples before I ate them and corn on the cob would get really messy. But that's about it.
Lay off her, anything that is a pain to eat she will figure out after the 1st time she tries it and she'll voluntarily give it up or deal with getting it out of her braces...which is pain so she will have to decide if it is worth it.

I had braces when I was younger. The only thing I had problems with was gum and popcorn. Rice Crispie Treats should be fine.

I don't think she's supposed to. They'd probably get stuck in the braces. If she brushes her teeth right afterwards it probably won't be that bad.
