Haggar: The Red Rocker....bar none!!! Sammy Haggar ENHANCED the Van Halen sound; gave it more vocal resonance, emotion and power! Sammy lifted Van Halen out of the juvenile-esque, L.A. bad azz boy scene.
With Haggar, Van Halen rocked without their former Whiskey A Go-Go, alcohol octane, skirt-chasing (belt-notching...wink, wink) image.
Diamond Dave was too big hair flashy/flamboyant; he focused too much on the L.A. scene/image.

I consider them to be two completely different bands. I think that with Hagar they were much more serious about the music, and probably made better music, but with Roth they had the attitude that made them Van Halen.

I like aspects of both singers but I have to stick by Roth as the best.

Hagar had the better voice
Roth had more charisma and stage presence, definitely an original!
I go with Roth.

I'll go with David Lee - I'm a little biased - the first big concert I ever went to was the "Women and Children First" tour - it was great.
