I've heard that although physically I'm not likely to be in danger, the harassment from the men can be unbearable and just make the whole trip unenjoyable. What do you think? Should I go?

First of all white has nothing to do with it. My wife is 100% Moroccan (came here from there in 2001) and is whiter than what I am.

You are NOT going to be physically in danger, as 99% of Moroccans are Muslims and would not physically endanger a female.

What you will encounter is heckling and catcalling. Also, little things that you would not even consider sexual can be taken as a Moroccan as an invitition or a solicition.

What you should do is have a gentleman with you and whenever in conversation call him your husband. You should receive almost no harrassment whatsoever.

Under NO cicrumstances should a Moroccan male touch you in any way. If he does say loudly SHOOUMA (shame on you!). This will bring attention to the situation and also bring shame on the person who touched you.

This is not to scare you, you should have a good time. Use the same reservations you would where you live. One last thing.

When at a nightclub watch your drink. Just as in America and in Europe, someone can slip something into your drink to make you sleep. Though this is rare, it is something to be aware of.

Seriously, you will be fine. There's no reason to let a few men stop you from visiting an amazing country -- there are men who will harass you everywhere in the world, so you may as well learn to put up with it and make the best of your time wherever you are. Just make sure that you are respectful in your dress (be modest, cover your hair in public) and that you use the same common sense you would in any other part of the world. Morocco is amazing and is really fun to explore on your own. By the way, being white doesn't have anything to do with it.

No, if you are sensitive. The men will treat you like a child. You should be safe if you go, if you stay in public. Check the State Department web site for updates on conditions. Tell them you are from Canada, everyone seems to think so poorly of Americans these days. And a Canadian hostage is not as likely, or considered as profitable.

Well, I used to live in Jordan & wore the whole head-to-foot getup, but still got sexually harassed all the time- the most memorable was being offered a designer gown for a bj. You might want to go some place where you will feel more comfortable.

I'm not very sure if you would be in physical danger, however, I do know that women are not as respected there as they are here. Men are definitely dominant. I'd be careful. Why not bring a friend?

Wherever you travel in many countries harassment is unavoidable, but in Morocco it is manageable. Just try to find good company to avoid that.

if you mind some idiot hitting on you in a bar: don't!
what you'll get there is 10 times worse
if you can fend for yourself, go for the adventure, but be sure to lock your door securely and be aware of were you go, the vibes you will send out to the men there are those of a prostitute, no matter what you try to fit in

marvelous isn't a compliment, this is dehumanizing. White anybody is recognized the "norm" so whilst persons describe persons of alternative races as particular, this is like asserting they are no longer common and are instead "alien" and astounding from the norm.
