I live in a high cost of living area.....and I teach. I shouldn't have to explain that for two months out of the year, I AM NOT PAID and I AM NOT WORKING. I would gladly like to make more money and work at my current position during the summer months. Even though the kids aren't there, I could certainly work on my classroom and develop new strategies for next year's class. I could take in-service classes during the summer instead of being yanked out of class so a sub could be paid and teach my lessons for me. Preparation is half the battle in education but very little time is allowed for prep during the school year. I would like to be paid to do all the extra things like curric. planning and collabortating with other teachers over the summer. As it is, I do go to my classroom over the summer and I do accomplish a lot....but I do not get paid and I don'[t have carpeting or air conditioning.

I am self-employed. I have some bad debts, which takes away what would otherwise be part of my positive earnings ... and without this money, I still have to pay the same bills, etc. People who fail to pay their bills to my company don't realize how they're not helping things ... as I will no longer have the money I need to purchase services from them, for example.

yes, dealing with people who think they're superior to me and treat me like an idiot just because in their opinion i don't have a "real job," makes me think i should be paid a hell of a lot more than $5.75 an hour.

I would think that we would all like to be paid more. As long as we want more money then we think we are under paid
