Prior wars often inspired song writers to write anti-war / peace songs. If artists are against the Iraq war then why haven't there been more anti-war songs?

In the sixties and seventies the anti-war music sold.

Think Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Neil Young (who just did record an anti-war CD). Think back to the whole Woodstock group and Arlo Guthrie, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young...

To say nothing of the anti-establishment leaders, the Beatles.

The counter-culture was the culture (in music, anyway).

The Dixie Chicks tried an anti-war song and their sales plummeted. Steve Earle did an anti-war CD that didn't sell.

This is more a reflection of today's culture (fat, non political, "let the poor and the indigent go fight and die for us" mind-set) than anything. The artists have have learned to slip their messages in subtly.

Because you can come out against the war and possibly survive, but if you put out a song, you are cutting your throat.....this is not the 60s, where there was meaning behind songs...not just self gratification by saying "look what I can do and see how I can buck the system"; today's music is all about drugs..gangsters..killing/drivebys...and that is just rap....this is what the kids are listening too. It is a crying shame that this is all that they can come up with.....

there are a lot of anti-war/peace songs.
but you`re not likely to hear them on the radio. most mainstream music is just going to be the save over-done and degrading music.
try to broaden your listening experience with indie rock.

Look what happened to The Dixie Chicks.

Music producers, performers and/or bands today invest way too much money to risk losing it all by taking a stand on a controversial issue that may kill their chances of success.....or worse.

because thats all our lives are.we start wars end them and then make new ones if we all closed ourselves off and fought the human nature we would be able to live in peace but humans are greedy and selfish creatures and i believe that somthing must be terribly right for there to be people who actually still care i like to live in peace and be numb to the worlds affairs but it is impossible

Because maybe there aren't actually as many people against the war as the liberal media would like us to believe.
