How can I get customers for my house cleaning service?

I want to start a house cleaning service, but I don't know how to get customers. Any ideas that don't cost a lot of money?

Advertise, Advertise, Advertise! Run an ad in your local paper. make up some business card and leave them at all different places, print up flyer's to put on cars in parking lots

A few ideas:

1) Flyers & Business Cards - Who are your customers & where do they shop (e.g. grocery, home improvement stores, etc)? Post flyers where your customers frequent.

2) Advertise Locally -- Newspapers, Craigslist, Yahoo! Local

3) Word of Mouth -- Offer a great service & people will talk.

4) Mailers -- Send out coupons, specials, etc.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Go to several large supermarkets in your city, give the store manager a flyer, and ask him , if you can distribute flyers to customers. If he says no, go to another store, or, go to a fast food restaurant, ask the manager, if you can distribute the flyers.

Do the same in front of movie theaters, unless management stops you. Some cities have a "No Loitering" law, which may include flyer distribution.

Have an artist friend design some great looking flyers for your cleaning service. Go to the large supermarkets in your city, say "hi," to the women going in and out of the store.

Give them a flyer, and ask if you can offer them a free, "house cleaning," on the day of their choice. Have your appointment book/calendar with you, in case you have a chance to make appointments.

You may have to go through this several times. Thing of other busy areas, where there are a lot of women.
