My computer has been mercilessly restarting on me all day and for a good portion of last night. I'm running Windows ME (yeah, I know), with a nearly 1 Ghz processor and 256 Megs of RAM. Some of it's most popular methods of restarting seem to be giving me the Blue Screen of Death and saying "Windows protection error, system has been halted, you need to restart your computer" or something to that effect. Sometimes, it freezes up and these odd short green vertical lines will appear across the top of the screen.

Occasionally, it also just flat out restarts on me with no warning whatsoever.

Is this a common problem among ME users? I'm stuck with ME as a system because I bought the comp used and don't have the money to upgrade. What can I do to stabalize this damn thing?

Well..... I won't tell you it's time for a new computer..... but I would run a good virus/worm checker on it. Not normal for a computer to be rebooting all of the time. Is your fan working? Sometimes your computer is overheating - but from the sound of it - could be a virus....

Reinstall ME. Windows Protection Error usuallly means you have a corrupt system file.

If you have installed any new device, go into safe mode (if you can) and try unistalling.
