Trezeguet would have shot, and missed, anyway. Trezeguet was not shooting in place of Zidane. All your arguments are highly speculative. I can make a million of those arguments on past World Cups that Italy lost. REMEMBER ONE THING, ITALY IS NEVER AN UNDERDOG WITH ANY TEAM IN THE WORLD. Don't ever make it one again.

Oh, and, by the way....Italy made ALL FIVE of its penalties in style. What makes you think THEY were the ones who were going to make a mistake had Zidane been allowed to shoot?

I will you tell you why! Because zidane is THE man and the flag of the french team. His personality is radiant and like his teamates say: "when we don't know what to do we give the ball to Zizou and he always makes something up.."

Also, does "golden ball" of the tournament say anything to you?

well, i really think that everything was fair and square in the game.

so let's picture this, my scenario is if zidane did shoot for the penalty kick, then the France probably would have made all five. yes, zidane is a great player, he should have got a goal.

Italy also would have all five in, as that was the facts. A five-five situation. Then there would be another extra penalty kick to decide the winner.. Guess who will shoot for France in the 2nd penalty round? Yes, yes, yes, Trezeguet!!

So no matter how many times you want to replay it, well.. I basically think there was never, never any different ending to the game. I can only urge the rest to be fair. I am so sad to see racist issues arises towards Italian for winning world cup. If Matterazzi insults were racist, then why there are so many racist comments on Italian afterwards?

If you are a racist yourself, you have no right to despise matterazzi.. and to emphasize that matterazzi did not say anything racist either.. well yeah he may said sth about zidane's mom and sister, but the only time he said racism is when he said, "say no to racism" ^^ so please no racist here!

If France wins, us Italian supporter will not curse you for winning fair game *will we? hehe*. But then we win, and we really hope for some sportive responds here, heloow. At last, congratz for four-stars-AZZURI!!! forza ITALY!

The French have problems winning at anything! That's why they are bitter with Italy's victory. The truth is Zidane was shut down in that game! He couldn't get past Italy's defense. His one shot on goal was blocked by Buffon. Zidanes penalty kick was nothing impressive. Lots of players make penalty kicks. Besides he barely made his!
France needs to remember that they got a break from the ref in the second half when he took Luca Toni's goal away that was a legit goal! Watch the play again. Italy would of won 2-1 in regular time. So stop crying french fans! You lost far and square.

Because Italy never won on a penalty shootout before (0-3) and France has won most of theirs. Also, Italy got a serious boost after Zidane was kicked out as most Italy players said after the game was over.

In actuality, the world media have been leading the way with remarks regarding the championship game, not the French players or citizens. In fact the American press have had a field day with the thought of ZINEDINE causing his team to lose. Also, supposed football/soccer fans from around the world have kept this entire issue alive with silly childish commentaries on the internet. People need to understand that the game you are viewing live in a stadium or via television is not always the same game that is played on the field among the players. Here are some questions for both the asker and readers to think about:

1. When Zinedane was injured in the game, with the possibility of
leaving the field just minutes earlier before 'the incident' would
people have said that he cost his team the game then?

2. When Thierry Henry left the game in overtime due to
exhaustion did anyone blame him for France losing?

3. When France's Ribery also left the game in overtime due to
exhaustion was he blamed for the loss of the game?

4. If three of France's top players (Zinedine, Henry,Ribery) had
still been in the game, who is to say that there would have
been penalty kicks?

5. Why do people think they can know how the game would
have ended unless you are the higher being 'GOD"?

6. Why did the Italian team believe they had to go after Zinedine
in any way they could as they stated to the press prior to the
game?

7. Why not just play the game with physical endurance and
intellectual strategy as a 'TEAM'?

8. Did you know that if the referee had heard Materazzi's
statements throughout the game or seen his inappropriate
behavior to Zinedine, according to FIFA laws Materazzi
would have been red carded?

Oh by the way, I predicted Italy would be in the final game. Who knew it would be against the team with one of my all-time favorite players ZINEDINE ZIDANE. So on the day of the game, I was cheering on both teams, knowing that two of my teams had made it to the championship. I was worried when my favorite Italian player 'Luca Toni' was first injured, Thierry Henry and Zinedine being injured. But they all continued to play their hearts
out. When the mishap occurred with Zizou and Materazzi I was stunned and shocked. Even I thought that France didn't have a chance without ZIZOU. But then I realized he is only one man and part of a team, people were turning him into a soccer God or superhuman being which he is not.

Nor do any of us really know how we would have reacted to Materazzi's comments, even though everyone seems to think they do, even former soccer players. Throughout the 2nd half
and overtimes, the Italians had become fatiqued and were playing on the defense. Usually when this occurs players will try anything to mess up the other teams playing both mentally and physically. Yes, in all sports dogging the other team's players is the everyday occurrence, but there is a line that should not be crossed and Materazzi crossed the line.

Like the JUDAS PRIEST song says, 'some things are worth fighting for', and Zinedine fought for his team to win, yet fighting for the honor of his family in the long run was worth it. It took quite a man to defend their honor.

Zinedine will be remembered for the incident, but, he will also always be remembered for his skillful, graceful, and visionary career. As well, his personality off the field of being an intelligent, caring, devoted family man, soft-spoken and shy man who loves his fans especially the children.

Oh yes in case you didn't know, when ZIZOU played for Italy's Juventus, the Italians would belittle him because he didn't cheat on his wife with the soccer groupies or party with certain substances. More power to ZINEDINE for saying no to those things and yes to his wife and family and being the best soccer player he could be.

On the basic of zidane butting the italian player it was his fought. In soccer our opponents will tried every means to get the best players out of the game. So zidane's butting the Italian didn't cause france their title, but is was dued to impatience to Zidane's part, he felt he was big and strong so he was applying his head at everything. Anyway that world Cup is over. What was history has already taken placed it is time for all fans to look forward to the 2010 FIFA WORLD CUPS.

I dont think it was zidanes fault they lost. They did lose one of their most valuable player but zidane was the one who kept them in the match that long. All the penalties went in besides trezeguet's and zidane would have shot first so it wouldnt mak a difference

It's dumb to think you can rely on just one person to win the Cup. Just look at Italy, their 12 goals came from 10 different players. That goes to show their impressive teamwork and commitment by EVERYONE.

But I would disagree on the part where all their penalties were well taken... gosh, I was shivering when Del Piero took his.... he looks uncertain... but luckily France doesn't have a good goalie =p

De Rossi's penalty was very class indeed

Exactly so even if Zidane wasn't given the red card France would have lost so all you french supportes can stop saying you could have won if it hadn't been for that darn headbutt
