Because they don't have a standard place to do so. Unlike most sites, there's no "status" page for Yahoo.
I wouldn't be surprised if this prompts them to add one.

I agree...yahoo.."ahem" if ur out there listening or reading any of these posts...how the heck are we suppose to know that it's the freekin servers that are down ..."thanks alot"..been wondering what's wrong with our computers all day...geez at least give us a heads up..duh.

seems to me they could e-mail to yahoo accounts ,most people can get to the web page
