Why do the people who fled from New Orleans for the hurricane to other cities behave so badly? I've met some in my home town and they have NO manners! What is this caused by? Why do that walk around the malls cursing loudly and throwing trash on the floor?

Every city has rude, ignorant residents, especially cities with large populations of people living in poverty. Unfortunately, the poorest residents of New Orleans were the most likely to be displaced in the first place (the Ninth Ward, an area largely of poor neighborhoods happened to be hit by deep flooding), and are the least able to return to a city with skyrocketing rents and still-closed public housing. Furthermore, you probably just don't notice all the decent, hard working people (the majority, I promise) who relocated to your area.

im from new orleans and im tired of people blaming their city's problems on us....every crime committed, every piece of litter found, every ignorant person IS NOT BECAUSE OF SOMEONE WHO FLED NEW ORLEANS!!!! and just because u meet some people from new orleans that who act disrespectfully doesn't mean everyone is at fault. casey p and capsr15 your answers are very ignorant, u know nothing about people from new orleans and i believe u shall never get that privilege. and to chanceala i grew up in the project and I HAVE MANNERS, I TAKE CARE OF MYSELF, I HAVE MET SOME OF THE BEST PEOPLE IN THE PROJECTS SO DONT CAST THAT SHADOW ON WHERE IM FROM....furthermore, i dont appreciate a whole city of people being cast in an uneducated, rude, ignorant light. if that was the case i can say every one in the part of texas i am in are a bunch of no driving, rednecks and immigrants but to say to that is wrong on many levels. i have made many friends here and would never allow anybody to say that about them. and to address the female from houston, you said it was a houston/new orleans riot.....that means people from HOUSTON were involved. i know people in houston, they assume, often incorrectly, that they are better than new orleans residents and try to claim some sort of territory there. they feel threatened when a new orleans person looks their way because they know their position is not as tightly held with females or males or whatever they thought they had on lock. and i agree with karzie mo, your brother probably did get beat, but i digress. im not saying that everyone from new orleans is a saint but you CANNOT lump everyone in one catagory. it just isnt possible. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD EVERYONE THAT WAS DISPLACED BY THE STORM IS NOT FROM NEW ORLEANS. OTHER PLACES IN LOUISIANA, MISSISSIPPI AND OTHER COSTAL AREAS ALSO HAVE DISPLACED RESIDENTS. NEW ORLEANS IS JUST A CITY, NOT A NATION. im really sorry that the people you incountered " behave so badly" but like sam b said everyone in your town is not perfect, so why are you only pointin out the bad in someone in a worst situation than you; what are you doing to improve the situation instead of complaining?

we are having the same problems in Houston. several fights and even riot's happen because of Houston vs new Orleans. my brother was in a riot with two new Orleans boys. and he whooped both of their a s s. but that's beside the point. basically the whole city has been a Houston vs new Orleans thing. and crime went up alot

Probably because they didn't use their manners when living in new orleans and they don't know how to use them now. they are probably sad and angry about their losses and show it by being disrespectful because they don't know how else to show it or how to act in a new environment. I'm not really sure but I see that you havn't gotten any answers yet so I would just like to put my input.
