I don't get it. The people fight over this Gaza Strip for decades. Can't one group move down the road about 500 miles and resettle?

Jews lived on the territory of Israel through the centuries, but they were a small minority. However, at the beginning of the century more and more came to settle on the Holly Land. Mostly, because of the pogroms in Russia and Eastern Europe. They were buying land and forming their agricultural communities. But, they were in average more educated than local Arab population and got financial support from some Jewish organizations. When they were poor and frightened, the friction between the two groups was light. But as they got stronger and purchased more and more land, economic and political competition intensified the conflict. And the very important factor - colonial Britain. The country did everything to make those two nations enemies. The policy of separating nations and group of people was very popular at this time. Signs of this separation virus is apparent in mordern conflicts between some of the Arab countries as well. Oh, this is a long story...
Anyway, Britain splitted the country in two parts between Arabs and Jews. Jews accepted the decision, and Arabs rejected it. Instead they launched the war against Jews. Jews won this war and following wars. They captured more territories, but some of was returned back (Sinai to Egypt). So, the land belongs to both nations, and Israel government tried to make it a country for everyone. Golda Meir was driving and asking fleeing Arabs after the war: "Arabs, do not go. Come back, we will live as brothers." Unfortunately, did not work that way.
Regarding resettling. Jews have no 500 miles to go for relocation. You know, that the country is 8 hours driving from North to South, and in some places just one hour from East to West. They surrounded by Arab countries. Where to go?
For Arabs, however, it is not easy as well. Not many friendly Arab countries are ready to accept them. And that makes sense. Jordan opened the borders. But after a while Palestinians already tried to destroy the local government military way. King of Jordan had to use tanks against them, and kill thousands to calm them down. How would agree after that to give them shelter? Besides, many Arabs countries are interested in keeping "ticking bomb" inside Israel. Why all this oil reach states do not help Palestinian Arabs with food and infrastructure? And why they always ready to supply guns?
I hope, it is possible to leave in piece on Middle East. But, the history of violence from both sides is too long. Those nations should be separated for couple of generations to get over.

For the IDIOTS that believe that it was Palestine land.......When if ever was there a country called Palestine? Answer NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! Throughout history which is about 4500 years long now where has there been a country called Palestine. The 4500 years comes for Egyptian history for theirs is the longest recorded in that area.
Secondly there has been a land called Israel for some 3000 years.
Thirdly the Arabs told the NOMADS called Palestians to settle there when the British agreed to give the land back to the Jewish people in 1914. The Arab countries did not want the Palestians in their land either so that is why when Israel became a country again they had them move into the land.
Lastly the PLO and Hamas have stated that the only way that there every will be peace with Israel is to wipe everyone of them off the face of the earth!

Its a lot more complicated than that. I would suggest you start from the beginning of the conflict which began thousands of years ago when the Jews were forcefully removed from the "holy land", until now. Don't just take the modern day explanation and let it end there, get the full perspective before you decide who is wrong and who is right. This is a holy war, and Israel is holy land. That is really what the fight is about, because muslims consider the same land as their holy land too.

Only desert is down the road and both Israel and Palestine feel they are entitled to the Gaza land. Once again the European powers fouled up everything when they did not set good boundaries at the start of Israel.

This land has been fought over not just for 50 years but for thousands of years. it is the holy land. sacred to the 3 most popular religions in the world (christanity, judasiam and islam. it contains most of the holiest sites in the world for these three religions. asking one group to leave is like asking the pope to reopen the vatican in america. according to christanity when there is peace in that land the end of the world is upon us. there is a mosque there that is built where the temle of solomon once stood. when there is peace the temple will be rebuild jesus will return and the 4 horse man of the apolocypse will be fully among us. thats the rhough story as religion goes. which is what all these people are fighting over. i am not a religous person at all. just so everybody knows. im not trying to push any one groups agenda. i just know the christian story best.

Okay. You need this question answered from a palestinian's person's side of view. You don't really know what's going on. Everyday hundreds of palestinians are being killed but it's not broadcasted on american news. Just on the news overseas. How I know, I have satelite. You do not see the pictures of all the children and people there all bloody and hurt. women crying because they lost their children. ANd poor little babies walking around with no home and their family is dead because jewish soldiers killed them. It makes you cry. I visited palestine about 2 years ago and thank god we live in the good part where barley anything is happening but things still happen. We slept at my grandmas house cuz we dont have one there jews took my mothers passport. and at like 5 am they came nocking at our door. they searched my uncles house and practically trashed the place. held up a gun to him YES I WAS SCARED I WAS ONLY 11. but thank god they left without hurting anyone. my grandma heard banging and was scared to death for her son. that's nothing compared to what they do to other houses. they go in and shoot everyone for no reason or just demolish the house with everyone in it. and if they are in a good mood they shoot little boys with their tanks and guns. and america supplies theit weapons. boycott mc donals on saturdays cuz all the money they make on saturday they send to isreal to buy more freekin weapons. i dont get it either

Can't answer that one but JR. I don't think I heard of Americans are driving tanks or setting off bombs on the America/Mexico border. It's for economics America and Mexico has issues, not religion. Whenever you but religion into the mix of any war, it makes it last for generations. More people have died in the name of God then for anything else.
