I was recently at the town pool and we had to get out of the pool when we heard thunder. We had to stay for 30 mins, and then we were allowed back in as long as there was no more thunder heard. I'm wondering if this is just cautionary or if anyone here has actually heard of someone getting hurt by a thunderstorm in a pool? (Please no "i think this or that answers") Just looking for people you know of that you have heard of getting injured in such an accident.

It is not the thunder that is dangerous....it is the lightening...also it is when you get scared and hurry and "run" from the pool and slip and break your head open.......Trust me.

Yeah, I do know of several. As long as you can hear thunder, you can get struck by lightning. Water conducts electricity, so lightning is drawn to it. If you're in a pool that get's hit by lightning, you'll probably be fried. It's a good precaution to take, even if there's no one there to make you get out.

Thunder usually proceeds lightning and water is a conductor of electricity so you should not be in or near water during a thunderstorm.

I have heard about it but never any one getting hurt. At my old house we use to swim during storms as long as they didn't get bad, but if it started thunder storming we stayed in. Nothing bad ever happened to us. I think is just a precaution though.

I don't know somebody that was struck in a pool. But I do know somebody who was standing in the middle of a football field, looked up, and got struck in the eye. You just have to be careful.

Water is a real good attractant for lightning, do you want YOUR kids in a pool when there's lightning in the area?

Like they were frazzled to death. I think that would be the last place to be in a thunderstorm.
