I worked in "Crafts and Fabrics" for several years in Walmart in Canada. We sell by the metre here, but I am familiar with the prices of the States as well.

Depending on what type of fabric you wish to purchase. They carry a wide variety of fabrics from "Seconds" which are cheaper products that have a small defect, good for crafts that start at $1.50 a yard. Then there is an assortment of better quality of fabrics that range in price from $3-4 and up to $10- and up. Fabrics they carry are lightweights to upholstery.
You can also phone your local Walmart and talk directly with an Associate from the Crafts and Fabrics department.
Goodluck!!!

It all depends on what type of fabric. Sometimes you can get it as cheap as a dollar a yard. That is usually the stuff that they have a hard time selling. Sometimes it will be just what you are looking for, other times - not so much. I've paid as much as 7 per yard for vinyl material. Normally, I think it is about 4 dollars

It depends on what type of fabric you want. Wether you want designs or just plain fabric the prices vary. Sometimes they have fabric on clearance, usually the plain fabric is $1. and some cents a yard. The most expensive I've seen is around $4 a yard.
