The title is: "Lookout Mountain"
Tune: White Star, or Billy Barlow in Tennessee

It’s a very long time since I bid you adieu,

It looks like you should be able to find the music here:
http://mariah.stonemarche.org/livhis/lookoutmtn.htm , but this link causes my computer to freeze. You could try.

According to http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~wcarr1/Lossing2/Chap19.html#e017, "John Valleau was commissioned first lieutenant of the Thirteenth Regiment on the 24th of March, 1812."

There is also a song about suicide and credit cards called "Lookout Mountain" by the Drive-By Truckers ( http://www.lyricsandsongs.com/song/241076.html ). That site includes the lyrics and a link to the actual song.

There is a song by Alabama called "My Home's in Alabama" that mentions Lookout Mountain (http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/alabama/my-homes-in-alabama-1971.html ). There are other songs that mention Lookout Mountain. One is about baking brownies. (I've lost the link.) You may find more on a Google Search of Lyrics including Lookout Mountain.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but are you from Ft. Payne or the Lookout Mountain area? I had family members that lived there. A wonderful place.
