I'm looking for a thread with certain properties and the only way i know how to get it is to destroy a pair of danskin tights. Does anyone know what type of thread or material these are made of?

There are a lot of different kinds, weights of Danskin (which is a brand name, of course - there are others by Capezio, Baryshnikov, etc.) dance tights. Most have nylon, lycra, & spandex, but some have cotton, something called "supplex", etc. Usually they are a slightly elasticized synthetic of one sort of another.

In the Indian Ocean there is a very small island of "Danskin". Years ago the population was waining, due to the fact that the women were waiting until later in life to have children. The men, apparently, were not attracted then to their sagging skin on their legs. Their government had to increase their population and did so by "fooling" the men.

Depends on the tight. Most common is a spandex-based thread that is woven rather than spun. Some threads mix mercerized cotton with the spandex to give a more matted finish, but the principle characteristics of the fabric remain unchanged.

Petroleum. NO, I am serious. It's a type of spandex which is made from a petroleum base. A lot of clothes is made with this base. Today even jeans have a percentage in the thread to make it easer to wear the jeans.
