I'm pregnant with 2 kids and love pretty hands. Busy life keeps me from getting the "full treatment" at a salon like I used to. My hubby bought me a foot massage bath and parafin dip unit for my hands and feet. So, I'm all set. Except for the part where my fingernails are short for practicality. I love red and hot pink. Does it just look trashy on shorter nails? Keep in mind, they aren't bitten or below the fingertip.

Actually, I think the colors would look trashy on the longer nails. RIght now, the most fashionable length is short, barely extending over the skin of the fingertip. I think a shorter length tones down the bright colors and makes it more sophisticated. It's an easy look to maintain; who needs a manicurist? Besides, there's nothing really more tackier than bright red talons, you know?

for short nails: bright colors are good, patterns are great, french manicure is fantastic.

details: paterns are polka dots and such, but an easy pattern is stripes. paint half the nail... hot pink let's say; and the other half red, or go crazy and do three stripes. being perfect doesn't matter either, if one stripe is bigger, so what. solids are ok, but never let a solid color chip on your nail. that looks trashy. french manicures are hard to do, but they add a false longness that makes your hands look elegant. glad if i could help, jk.

I love pretty hands too. I think as long as your nails are in good shape like you said then bright colors are fine. I think long nails look tacky now. I used to have mine very long, but don't like them that way anymore. I have two children too so we both know how things change. Good luck with #3!

No. Long nails look trashy. I associate them with old ladies who have nothing better to do than sit around and smoke cigarettes and grow their nails. Short nails look good. Paint them a solid color. Overly fancy nails are so ghetto.

Nicole Richie sported short red nails while shopping in Santa Monica recently.

I'm a guy, and personally, I don't like long nails. I know a lot of like very long, painted nails cause they're "so pretty", but I don't like them.

A little bit of toenail is fine... but I agree together with you. Long nails are kinda major.

I don't really like it on short nails, but you should wear whatever you feel comfortable in.
