Quotas suck, that's for sure.

You've been there for 7 years, so it's a safe bet that if you think the quota is impossible, it probably is... or at least very unreasonable. I'm going to go with unreasonable if that's okay.

Since the quota is unreasonable, it seems to me that they are setting you up for a fall, to say that "you didn't meet quota" and giving themselves an excuse not to give a reasonable package.

And the only reason that I have ever seen a company do that is because (drum roll please) they're in financial hot water themselves (cymbal crash)!

Understand that I'm speculating here, but from what you describe it doesn't really sound like your company is "rolling in it" just now. And I have found that often times this is because of poor leadership at the company--especially when that leadership blames sales.

Unemployment is nice--I've collected it before. The check clears and everything. But you know what, it also sucks. It sucks the life right out of you--especially you because you are in sales and it just is hard to get motivated in sales when drawing unemployment. At least, it had been for me.

SO what's best? Dang-nabbit, brush off your rolodex and start calling your contacts. Get yourself a great brand new job ASAP and quit before you get fired. Also, be sure to give your best in your current sales efforts because 1) you'll feel better about yourself, 2) you'll have more money if the axe does fall, 3) you'll have more contacts while you are looking, and 4) you'll feel better about yourself (yeah, I said that twice, but it's twice as important)!

Contrary to what you believe, giving two weeks notice might not look so good on the resume. You'll be quitting a job and the next company you apply for will wonder why.

Do your best and just try and get this "nearly impossible" quota. If not for the job security's sake, for your own personal skill's sake. Who knows? You might discover a hidden strength during this time. Just remember, once they gave you an ultimatum they've been probably considering firing you anyway so let them do so and collect the unemployment.

First of all...are you happy at your job? At the end of the day, you have to be happy about what you are doing there in order to be satisfied. So, that is the first thing you need to consider.

If you really do like your job, there are things you can do to "Make your quota."

1. Talk to someone that seems to make their quota all the time and get tips on how they do it. As long as you work with good people, this is your best option.
2. Talk to your supervisor and ask him/her for ideas. It is in your supervisor's best interest for you to be successful. A good supervisor will coach you along (but not do your job for you).
3. You need to believe that you can do it. If everyone at your job has a quota (which I imagine is the same), then obviously it can be done. You just have to believe in yourself and make it happen.

Also, you talked about your resume.....Have you been keeping it up to date? This is something that you need to do in the event that you need it to find employment again.

Between you and I though....Option "B" is NOT an option.

Well if you plan on still working I would go with option A. I would also have them write a letter saying what you quota was. If it is an outragouse quota if you get back in the same kind of business they will understand. but if there giveing you trouble after 7 years then it will probly nrver get better there.

Try to meet the quota. If you don't, then let them fire you. Get the unemployment. It will help you make it until you find another job. Which could take longer than 2 weeks. Good luck!

If you really think you are giving all you can give to make your quota start looking for another job. Give them a two week notice and start looking early. Best of luck to you.

Don't quit! Start job hunting immediately! Keep that job as long as you can, while you are looking for another job.

Ask any friendly co-workers or managers - whom you are SURE you can trust - for written recommendations, "just in case" you need to find a job quickly. Don't tell them you are planning to leave, but you may tell them about the warning you've been given to meet your quota or else!

DON'T TELL ANYONE AT WORK that you are job hunting! And, don't job hunt FROM work - do it on your own time with your own telephone and computer.

Good luck!

Find another job, then give notice unless you can afford to be unemployed for at least 3 months then just give notice.
