Suppose you became a millionaire?

Either by lottery win or sudden inheritance.....would you still go to work? what would you do with all your money? do you think you'd be happy? what would you buy? How would it change your life? Do you think it would change YOU as a person?

Wow such a lot of questions!! Would I still go to work? Yes and no. I'd quit my job and do some travelling, but I'd work as my own boss - I might buy a pub or something when I'd finished seeing the world, just to keep my sanity.

What would I do with all my money? Aside from the usual paying off debts, helping family friends and charities; I'd buy a house, a Ferrari with the number-plate "P4UL B" (which costs £20k), and maybe a chopper!

How would it change my life? Well instead of working 40, 50, sometimes 60 hours a week for a rubbish wage, I'd be able to relax and do all of the things that I want to do without worrying about not being able to afford it.

Would it change me as a person? I honestly believe that it wouldn't. I'm me, whether I've got £100, £10,000 or £10,000,000 in my bank account.

I'd visit my 85 y/o mum with some cruise brochures and let her choose where she'd like to go. She's always dreamed of a cruise although the thought of it bores me to tears but she deserves it for being such an incredible mum.

I'd then have my two children visit and give them equal amounts so theycould pay off their mortgages and do whatever else they like.

I'd donate to 3 charities, Womens Aid, a local animal rescue and cancer research, all close to my heart for various reasons.

I'd certainly fill my larder and freezer to the brim.Then if there was enough left over (£1m doesn't go far these days) I'd replace my old car with a greener one, and I might buy a new outfit instead of shopping at charity shops.

Finally I'd make sure I didn't have any left to put in a bank account, as I'm now on long term sickness benefit and can't have much in the way of savings before I'm penalised. It would change me in as much as I'd know my family and the charities gained a few gifts and happy in the knowledge that the government is still giving me back some of what I've paid them for the past 42 years.

I would leave my job, but not right away. I would want to set up things so that I could leave without those around me knowing that I got the million bucks.

I would invest, likely in Municipal Bonds so that I could recieve tax-free income for living and direct my efforts toward a business that I have in mind. The income from the municipal bonds would support my family and then I would not need to take money out of the business in the first few years, thus allowing complete reinvesting of cash flow.

Would I be happy? Absoloutely. I seriously dislike my current career and only do that because of the cash that I earn. I cannot wait to get out of it and into a career that I love.

I would definitely be a better person because I would have less stress in my life and would be better able to focus on that which is important rather than that which is urgent or required.

Oh, and one other person put this in their answer and they are right: a million dollars isn't all that much money anymore.

I think I would take a little time off work... pay off my mortgage... buy a nice (not too expensive though) car... something like a top of the range LandRover Discovery..... continue to put my two children through private school and go on a nice holiday a couple of times a year....

Any money left over... invest for old age and to pay for university......

It wouldn't change me.... make me worry a bit less about my own affairs but wouldn't stop me worrying about whether the world will still be around for my children to grow up in.

I like to think I would work part time. BUT! I would love to be an author, so I'd probably devote my time to writing novels. I know my bloke would still need to work, it'd drive him nuts. I'd like to pay off my mortgage, my parents mortgage, his parents mortgage, buy a second car (another 4x4), get a personal fitness trainer to help me shed a couple of stone (1 stone = 14 lbs) coz I've manged to shed 2 on my own (stone not pounds!). I'd tour the UK with my bloke and dog, get another couple of dogs, move to a slightly bigger house on the outskirts of town and carry on living life. It would change my life no end, I wouldn't have to do overtime when a big bill came in, or if something breaks and needs emergency repair. It would remove a lot of stresses. I really don't know if it would change me as a person. I'd probably keep it quiet for as long as possible and gradually buy things.

I would not work, but I would volunteer. The main things I would do is pay off the mortgage, buy a small flat at home in England and buy my dream car....other than that I would attempt to maintain the status quo because money does not determine happiness. I don't think it would change me, I think it would just be a tool to do other things in my life.

Heck no I wouldn't work. I don't work now. lol

I would shop, and shop, and shop some more. I would make sure all of my family members get a share. I would have a mansion and cars and so would my immediate family.

I might not be happy all the time. But shopping would make me feel better temporarily. Like a bandage.

My life would never be the same. It would be such a prude. Just being truthful.

I would be an even bigger (you know what). lol

Work? I don't think so . . . I'd buy a yacht and go sailing without the inconvenience of having to come back. I'd be happy (although I'm happy now) and the only change in my life would be not having to clock 40 hrs./week to eat.

I would work but not at my current job. I would help my family to pay off all outstanding bills and set up a Trust Fund for all of us to live off of. I'd help my Mother (she suffers from a stroke). I'd help my brother's and sister too! I'd purchase a home and invest the rest of it. I'm certain I'd be more happy! It would help everyone around me. ( I pray that I'd be wise in my giving...) Yes it would change me for the better, cause I'd dramaticlly change many other good people's lives around me. It would be a win, win. Yes, another good thing! ~grin~

A million dollars is not a lot of money anymore. However, I would not pretend to fool myself by continuing to work for someone else's fortune.

I'd quietly look for investments and business oppurtunuities that would help my fortune grow. go into business for myself after I've thought out all the details.
