There's no set answer - it depends on what else you're eating and drinking. You don't really need eight 8 ounce glasses a day, but that's a good goal to set. If it's especially hot or if you exercize a lot, you need more. If you're REALLY sweating (think marathons), you should be drinking sports drinks that will replace electrolytes, not just water.

In spite of what other people have said, you CAN drink too much water. It dilutes the electrolytes in your system, causes the brain to swell, and can kill you. That's only in extreme amounts, however.

I have read many places and was advised by my doctor that you are to drink 1/2 oz per pound you weigh so if you weigh 100lbs you should drink 50 oz. There is no such thing as too much water. It hydrates your skin, keeps your hair healthy, keeps you hydrated and your bowl movements regular. Plus it flushes out the toxins and can help you loose weight. Good luck to you.

You don't need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. You certainly don't need 1/2 your body weight (in oz.) per day. You don't need ANY arbitrary target amount per day. Drink when you're thirsty. Period!
