Yosninoya is a great Japanese fast food chain. There are many of them all over the place. It is cheap.

Bamiyan is a Chinese restaurant chain. It is quite cheap too.

If you go into any convient store, they have packaged foods that are quite good. Lawsons, Family Mart, 7-11, am-pm

They have spagetti, chicken and rice, and quite a lot of other choices too. They'll even heat it up for you in their microwave.

Yoshinoya if you can find one. Even McDonald's is pricey. We found this little place close to our hotel in Shinagawa that serves freshly prepared bento boxes. It has a bright pink facade and the prices are so reasonable. We would also buy food from the train stations and Andersen's bakery. This way we take it back to our hotel and eat it. We make sure we have a very good breakfast (free in the hotel) before sightseeing. This helped us save some money.

i enjoyed bento places the most. look around and you find places. If you feel like spending get some yakiniku(kobebeef), its awesome and worth it, pretty expensive though. McDonalds can be expensive but pretty good. I forget the name but there are places you pay for the food at a machine and then seat down. They tend to be cheap and good, probably what you are looking for. Again just look around, youll find places. Its like america there are cheap places and expensive ones.Dont be afraid to microwave though. I found that helped me when i was in japan.

There are loads of places! Just browse around a bit, and you'll see the prices next to the models of the meals ... you'll find tons of restaurants where you can eat for well under 1,000円!

Once, in Nara, I ordered what I thought was a slightly expensive katsudon ... it was about 700円 ... but when it arrived at the table it had ALL the trimmings too! Soup, cold noodles (it was summer,) other stuff too, but even though I was sharing with my daughter we couldn't finish it all!

Eating cheap locally, I like tenya best - they do cheap-ish tenpura food, and I like their basic ten-don, it's a donburi with a selection of tenpura on top. You also get the soup and a drink - normally you get cold mugi-cha (wheat tea) but you can ask for water if you prefer. That's 500円 and it's very filling!

Yoshinoya is probably cheaper, but I've never eaten there so I can't personally recommend it - but it's very popular!

Another of my favourites is the Ringer Hut, their Nagasaki Chanpon is very nice..! And it starts at about 400円 for a normal sized bowl;

The lunch menu isn't quite such good value, but for a couple of hundred extra yen you get a side dish;

The set menu is also not such good value in my opinion, but then I can't eat anything extra after a bowl of chanpon, so I WOULD say that...!

There are ramen (noodle soup) restaurants all over the place, most of them are pretty cheap too! They also normally do a variety of cold noodles in the summer, so you don't have to eat hot food unless you want to..!

As I said before, just browse around! You're bound to find something cheap and delicious..!
: )

As MacDonald's has been mentioned, here's their set (value) meal menu, with prices. Just so you know what the deal is!

Convenience stores are pretty cheap and pretty good, not like American convenience stores. Very fresh. Also, they have 100 yen sushi shops too, but the quality is not as good. Just look around. There's lotsa good eats in Japan.

It's always a good idea to eat at a local eatery where the local natives eat. Nine times out of ten it will be a place where the food is good and priced right.

Try the basements of department stores. If you go around 19:00 or so there will be discounts as they try to get closed up for the day.

♡At Hanamaru ☆Udon in Shibuya you can get sanuki udon, a small bowl, for 100 yen! Cheap, right? Medium bowl is 200 yen, large bowl is 300 yen. I usually eat a small bowl, it's enough for me.
The Hanamaru website is in Japanese only, sorry.

☆How about Soba? A bowl of soba costs about 400 yen at a tachigui soba shop. As a fast food, the most popular kind of soba would have to be tachiguisoba (立食そば), or "stand and eat soba." http://massa.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/tachiguisoba.jpg

There are no chairs at this type of soba restaurant, but simply waist-high counters where customers stand and eat. Often found inside train stations, they are convenient for people who have to eat in a hurry. You can eat soba or udon here. It then takes only about a minute for your noodles to be served.
☆There's the ever popular 'Kaiten Sushi' for 100 yen (and up) sushi if you like sushi. You get hot tea or water free.

☆You can always go with the MacDonald's 100 yen menu. Although it get boring and isn't healthy!
☆You can eat at Gusto everyday, a different meal for about 480 yen.

The Skylark chain are all very affordable.

☆The convenience stores offer a variety of 'onigiri' at about about 100 yen to 200 yen each.

They have green salads, cold noodles, omurice, spaghetti and more for under 500 yen.
http://zouchan.fc2web.com/diary/03Jul_1/salad_raw.jpg
They even heat it up for you and give your a fork, spoon or chopsticks.
Lots of choices, hope this helps! I hope you find lots of different things to eat everyday.♡
