There are over 300 species of algae that live on snowfields, icefields, and glaciers. Some of them produce a red color which is a protective chemical (carotenoids such as astaxanthin) that the alga use as protection against visible and ultra violet light that bounces off the snow and ice surfaces and so saturates them to a point where it become harmful and destructive. The red color has a faint "watermelon" smell.

You seem to assume that color indicates temperature, so by inference the sky should be cold, and trees and grass moderately warm.
