Does the internet use electricity? I am wondering this because my silblings think it does, but it doesn't because the computer your using waste elecricity, but not the internet. So please tell me if it does or doesn't.

The Internet is essentially a huge interconnected group of computers and networking devices, as well as the wires and fiber optic cables that connect everything together. Without electricity, none of the devices would work, and no signals would be sent.

As to whether that is a 'waste' of electricity depends on whether you feel you receive value from the Internet. There are many things you can accomplish using the net that would take a LOT more energy to accomplish by other means. And you can be sure that providers are looking for ways to save even more electricity, since they have to pay for it, so the more efficient they can be, the more profit they can make.

Ok here goes.....

The Internet is a title put on the Worldwide network of Computers and Computer servers
( A SERVER IS just a big computer that hosts websites)..
So technically the internet does not use electricity but it technically does..
Without electricity there is nothing to run the Machines that are used to store and distribute the information the "internet" collectively consists of......

Naw man, the Internet doesn't use a blessed bit of electricity, you can get it in your *head* just by thinking about it hard enough....

**SLAPS! Noggin** Duh! Where *were* you when they passed out the *brains*?? You need a computer to *get* online, don't you? Computers Need ELECTRICITY to work, and that includes those special ones....called SERVERS....that are responsible for that thing we call the Internet!

technically: yes, the Internet uses electricity.

You are using just a fraction of you home's electricity to power your part.
It is so small that it might cost you five cents a year.
