It depends where you live. My knowledge is in southern & northern California, southwest Colorado and then panhandle of Florida. In Los Angeles, rents start at $2000 for a basic apartment. In small towns in northern California, you can rent a whole house for $500. For food, if you are budget wise, you can spend as little as $5 a day for one person. Buy in bulk (rice, potatoes, large bags of apples), buy only what meats and veggies are on sale. Again, food costs depend on where you live. I have no idea how much food runs in places like New York City. Utilities are sometimes included in some rents, but if not, I have found they can run as low as $40 for electric per month or up to $250 per month, if you are all electric heating and live in a cold state. Phones usually are basically $20 per month.

It depends on where you live largely. Most studio apartments have their heat and water included with rent. (In wisconsin ranging from $150 to $300) Electricity in studios usually run maybe $25 if you have a window A/C. A small two bedroom house rents for $250 - $425 and electricity and water run about $50. Heat is usually budgeted at about $50. And personal costs (food, clothes, etc) well that is up to you.

It all depends on what area of the country you live in. I live in Dallas, Texas and my monthly bills run about 2000.00 dollars for rent and utilities alone. I could live in a cheaper condo etc... but choose not to. Be more specific and you will get a better answer. Peace.
