Cot seems to be much more expensive than playpen though and playpen is easier to keep and store when not in use

I have a new grandson that I keep at least 2 nights a week and needed something that was easy to store as well. For mother's day my other sons got together and got me something called a Pack and Play, it is a smaller playpen with an insert that works like a bassinet for small babies and comes out for larger babies. It also has a changing table insert that really saves my back. This thing is great it folds up in a snap and stores away in it's own bag that looks like a small tent. I think they payed something like $80.00 and this will come in really handy if we want to travel with the baby as well as at home. We have even taken it outside in the shade and he loves it. This would be great for parents and grandparents alike. Good Luck

Yes You need both. If you can only afford one get both used.. Or buy a crib now get a pen later baby won't need one for a few months as they do not move around..I have yet to use a playpen My entire home is child proofed so there is nothing for them to get into..The playpen is hard and not good for sleeping

There are playpens that come with bassinet attachments. It actually just slips over the sides of the playpen and is about 8 inches deep. They are also great for using as a changing table. We have a 2 story house and used that downstairs with our daughter. She would take her naps in that until 7 months when she started pulling herself up to a standing position. It is a nice perk to have and they are much more compact.

I have a Pack n' Play, which really comes in useful for travelling since it can be used as either a playpen or a crib (if none is available). I take it with me when I travel, and it folds up into a manageable size with a handle.

IF you can only get one I would go for the playpen. The baby can sleep in it and when they start to toddle around you will be very happy to put them in the playpen for a few minutes, if they will stay in it by then. the baby is gonna get out of that cot the secone they are able to do so.

Fold n go all the way!! Its a play pen with a bassinet insert for younger baby's. My son spent most of his first 2 months alive in it. Its also ideal if you have minimal space available because while they are real young you can just leave it as a bassinet and use the bottom for storage for diapers, powder, clothes, etc.
