What is a good book that is not that long but it might take me the summer? And one that is not really small print.

When my daughters were your age, they liked to read romances (a series that I won't even mention). They made fun of them but still they would read every one they could get their hands on.

I made a deal with them. They could read whatever they chose, but each time they read one of those romances, I would buy them a serious book to read.

Somehow they came across a series called The Flambards, and they both fell in love with these books. There was also a television series based on these books; they read the books and saw the videotapes several times. The whole family got hooked.

The four books are by K. M. Peyton. The first one is also called Flambards, and it will stand on its own, but once you are hooked, you probably won't stop with just one. (K. M. Peyton is actually a pseudonym for a husband and wife team, Kathleen and Michael Peyton.) These are British books but they are the happy/sad story of three (or four) young people who become mature adults in the series, facing tragedy, overcoming obstacles, and finding themselves. The books are set before, during, and after World War I, and one of the main characters is a flyer, but they are NOT war stories.

The books are available in paperback, but you can probably find a good hardback edition in your public library.

Give 'em a try. Then find the videotapes, too. Enjoy!

Here are some great nonfiction autobiographies

The Cage by Ruth Minsky Sender
Girl with The White Flag by Tomika Higa
I Have Lived A Thousand Years by Livia Bitton-Jackson
In My Hands by Irene Gut Opdyke

Other great nonfiction titles
Invisible Allies
Guinea Pig Scientists

Fiction titles you might enjoy
Sarah Dessen is a great YA author. She's written many books. Her latest book is Just Listen. The Truth About Forever is also good.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is a great book to read as well.

My favorite "can't-put-it-down" book is Twilight by Stephenie Lauren. It is a great book, it's over 500 pages...but it is seriously so good...that you'll be amazed how quickly it reads. While it is not unusual for me to finish a 100-200 page book in one day, it is unusual for me to finish a 500 page book in one day...but I couldn't stop myself. So if the story is more important than the length...then go with Twilight. The sequel New Moon is due out in September or October... :) Also there is a great audio book of Twilight in case you like to listen to books...it's 11 cds...but my library had it and I loved it!

The Other Twin- Hunter Morgan.
You won't beable to put it down. The suspence will leave you in question.
A "rehabilitated" serial killer appears to be on the loose again in this debut romantic suspense novel from Morgan (who writes romances as Colleen Faulkner: Shocking Request, etc.). Horrors from the past invade the idyllic beachfront home of newly divorced writer Sydney MacGregor and her feisty teenaged daughter when Sydney learns that her twin sister's murderer, serial killer Charles Eshey, has been released. Her fears intensify after the child of a fellow survivor disappears. Thirty years earlier, Sydney's testimony locked up the Twin Murderer, whose MO involved killing one twin and leaving the other alive. Now Sydney fears that the newly released Eshey, a twin who fathered twins and killed his own brother simply because they "couldn't both exist on this earth," will target her child. The suspense wanes while Sydney tries to prove that Eshey, a wheezy old ex-con with a heart condition, is still dangerous. Desperate, she teams up with true crime author Marshall King. Meanwhile, an unfortunately named lesbian FBI agent, Jessica Manlove, pursues Eshey on her own. All the threads come together in a taut, surprising climax, but even this final twist fails to offset the book's sluggish middle and tepid romance.

You should pick a biography of a person that either inspires you or someone that is known for having led an interesting life. You can read reviews of books on www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com so that you can do a specific search for biographies. I'm sure that there are other sites that you could go to as well.

If you're a fan of metal or rock there are a bunch of recomendations I'd have for you. "Fargo Rock City" by Chuck Kolsterman, if you're into the '80s metal scene is very decent though you might get a headache. "Scar Tissue" by Anthony Keidis, (lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) it's his autobiography. "Tommyland" Tommy Lee's autobio. "The Dirt" if you're a Motely Crue fan.

If you're not a fan take a trip through the non-fic section of your local library, tons of fascinating stuff.
