Speedway Motors (Speedwaymotors.com) sells a mini spool for that rear end. I tried it for a little while in my street stock on dirt. DO NOT use this in a street car!! The piece works okay in a dirt race car, but it is not the best. On asphalt you will break things. Not sure what you have in mind, but that rear end will not hold up to a fully locked unit on asphalt. Some kind of limited slip or posi unit is the only way to go. A locked rear end on the street is just asking for trouble, especially in the rain. Doesn't the Monte SS have a posi unit already? I have a drag car with a stock factory posi unit, and so far it performs very well. Good Luck. If you still want to give the mini spool a shot I think it's part #910-48603 around $90.

I have an 88 5.0 LX 5-speed. I have raced modified SS Monte Carlo's. I usually 1/2 track them in the 1/8 mile. The Mustang will hook better than the non-weight transfering Monte Carlo. The Mustang is over 400lbs lighter than the SS and is more aerodynamic. My money is on the Mustang. Especially if it is a 5-speed.
