Multiplicative inverse is the inverse of any number. This is the basic definition.

DEFINITION :
In mathematics, the reciprocal, or multiplicative inverse, of a number x is the number which, when multiplied by x, yields 1. It is denoted 1/x or x-1.

Number can mean here any element of a unital algebra, but the term reciprocal, as well as the notation 1/x, is usually restricted to commutative fields. In the non-abelian case, "inverse" implies both, left and right inverse.

Let us suppose 5. its multiplicative inverse is 1/5.

It is the same for the negative numbers also.
For -7, the multiplicative inverse is 1/(-7) = - 1/7.

The same as the negative of the multiplicative inverse of a positive number.

For instance, the m.inv. of -3 is

1 / (-3) = - (1/3)

RE:
what is the multiplicitive inverse if a negitive number?

EXAMPLE: -3 SUBTRACTED BY -6 = -3 PLUS +6 = +3 This is because when you have to negative numbers the number beside it must always become a posotive. Dont ask me i guess its just the way it works:P if you told me the two numbers i could have helped you out more but in the eman time im pretty sure this is the answer your looking for! hope it helps :P and btw. if your wondering about the addition sign its just practically the same thing. It automatically changes wuth the negative number to the right of it so as the example showed above. The -6 turns into a posotive and you end up adding instead of subtracting. I hope this helps tho again have fun:| im pretty sure its right tho you can double check it?

it is a whole number it is the no. itself but for -0 it is 0
eg.the multiplicative inverse of -2 is-1/2
if it is a rational no. then it it the inverse but for- 0/1it 0
eg the multiplication inverse of -1/5 is -5/1 or -5

The product of a number and its multiplicitive inverse must equal one. Negative numbers are the same as positive numbers, except that the M.I. will be negative because a neg# * neg# = pos#.
For example.
-2 * -1/2 = 1

It is also a negative number, because -ve times -ve gives positive.
