Hollywood Actresses- Role Models?

Question

I'm so upset lately about the increasing trend of unhealthy women in Hollywood. These are the women who grace the cover of every magazine and that we see in popular films. They are the women who young girls want to emulate, and who set the standard of beauty for a generation. These women actively recruit the role of role-models by putting themselves in the limelight and promoting their movies, books, and albums.

While browsing celebrity photographs recently, I have seen pictures of women and girls who used to be healthy and gorgeous...but now look like skeletons. To name a few: Lara Flynn Boyle, Ashley Simpson, Kate Bosworth, Nicole Ritchie.
I realize that being overweight is unhealthy. But so is starving yourself. I also know the women in Hollywood are under enormous pressure to look perfect. But who has defined "perfect"? Was it us, the general public? Do we want to see the women looking like this?

Not many...Liv Tyler is a good answer. Jullianne Moore--she's a wonderful role model.

I agree with you 100%. A normal healthy diet of regular exercise will keep most woman from becoming overweight or underweight. The so-called Hollywood role models are giving women the impression that emaciation is sheik. Nothing pretty about a skeleton with skin. Every era has its role models. In the 50's, Marilyn Monroe was the hottest thing going and she was a bit rounded. All we can hope is that the bony look fad will fade soon.

yeah, i agree...i wrote an english paper about this for part of my exam.
The starvy is not the only problem. I personally LOVE the show the oc. Rachel Bilson plays the role of Summer Roberts on that show. Who i, being a young teenager initionally found as a great role model. She was pretty, rich, spoiled, had a great boyfriend, and everything else that i ever wanted. And everyone (including my mom) knew that i wanted to be just like her. But then summer got into drinking, sex, and alot more. I was embarrased to know that that character was once my role model.

Brittany Spears was pretty bad too. She started out as a young innocent girl living the american dream, so every young teenage girl wanted to be just like her. Then she got herself into the clothes she has been wearing, and her provocitive songs and dancing, and much more. Many of these girls followed.

I agree. y r so many Hollywood actresses starving themselves? but not all of them r starving themselves. There's Keira Knightly, Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, Rachel McAdams and the list can go on but I say all these beautiful ladies r better than the ones who r starving themselves. At least they're "perfect". (I think)

ok...now...Lara Flyn Boyle has never been healthy and gorgeous..and i dont know about that nicole ritchie girl.

but real women from all ponints of view , in my opinion are: Queen Latifah, Oprah,heidi klum,jennifer aniston, they kept a pretty good balance in time.and there are a couple more

I totally agree with you. It is terrible. I hope that the few female celebrities out there who don't agree with the super thin thing try and someday do something about it.
