if you have windows....you can try this.....

go to start menu

go to "run"

type "msconfig", then click "run"

then go to "startup"

when that screen comes up, you will see a list of file names with boxes next to them that you can "check" or "uncheck"

the only boxes that really need to be checked are any files that pertain to you security systems

try "unchecking" everything except the securtiy/antivirus files

that will probably help a lot with startup speed

you can also go to your control panel and "add/remove programs"
and remove all programs that you do not use

also, go to "accessories" then "system tools"........
run scandisk, and also disk defragment

hope that helps

peace

There could be many, many different reasons for this. Here are a few tips:

- If the problem started recently, try using Windows XP System Restore to restore your computer back to the time it worked well. This won't affect any documents that you've written, it will just roll back your installations and applications.

- Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove every program that you don't use or need.

- If you hard disk is spinning excessively (both before and after boot), add memory to your computer. Take it to a computer store, or check out http://www.crucial.com for ways to do it yourself.

- Disable / uninstall things that start up when your computer boots. If you have too many instant messengers, virus protection programs, firewalls (these types of things often create icons in your system tray), your computer will boot slowly.

first, go to start, all programs, start up. delete everything that's useless in there, such as printer monitor program, office monitor program, etc. then go to start, run and type in msconfig. click on the startup tab and uncheck everything you don't need in there. If you aren't sure about an entry do a google search to find out what it is. If you are still not sure, leave it. exit out of that and reboot. then drfrag your hard drive.

Try MSCONFIG, My PC used to take about 5 minutes to boot up until I disabled all the advertising I didn't want. This will also help you understand and control your PC better. Now it takes about 30 seconds to boot. This is part of windows all users should get to know.

go to www.sysinternals.com
download the program named autoruns
install and remove any program that you don't want running automatically when your computer starts up. It will start up alot faster when it doesn't have to start all that other junk that you probably don't know is even there.

Computer Slow

Download and then run startup.exe at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Other things to try:

1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)
