I've been doing some research on the web and in many articles, there seems to be a connection between The NJ Pine Barrens & The Ramapo Mountain People, who seem to have a similiar ancestoral background (again, according to some articles on the web), a similiar history, and certainly don't live THAT far apart from each other location wise.

Anyone familiar with these two groups and their history? Are they related to each other?

One good way would be to get some of them to submit voluntarily to a genetic test. This is feasible with today's technology.

I am interested that you are following this line of thought, having read up on both of them. Check New York Times, 8 April 2001, Ronnald Van Dunk, Chief Red Bone of the Ramapough, dies at age 68.

Have you read John McPhee's book on The Pine Barrens? I'd be interested in teaming up with you or at least exchanging notes. I'm working on researching Southeastern Native Americans at the time being.

there is speculation that the people that live n the western side of the US may have come across the bering straights.during one of the ice ages and moved southand east. while those that made it from europen countries folowed the gulf streams thatrun up from africa and up into and around Greenland and into canada may have proved a route for those found on the east coast. when the newest group of europien explories first arrived here.
