My husband's car popped the transmission line and leaked fluid all over the drive way. How can this be removed other than scrubbing it out with some kind of detergent? Is there even a detergent that will remove it?

go to a hardware store and get some muratic acid. It is for cleaning concrete. Put about 1/3 gal in a 5 gallon bucket and fill the rest with water and poor it on the stain.
First you need to pick up the excesses fluid with cat litter. poor it on top and twist it in with your foot. then sweep it up, then try your acid mix.

I removed the red transmission oil from my concrete drive way with plain dirt.

I put a couple shovelsful or dry dirt on the drive and spread it over the oil spot, and left it for a day. Then I swept the dirt back and forth until it had absorbed the oil.

After I had worked hard all day, hubby came home, went into the garage and got some mineral spirits [paint thinner] and poured it on the spot, and voila! absolutely clean!

First of all, disregard the idiot who said to use Diesel Fuel... Especially if you have an asphalt driveway. The department of transportation actually uses diesel fuel to BREAK APART and clean asphalt off of their road-crew vehicles....

Idiot....

If you soaked up the tranny fluid, some special-formulated concrete cleaner might work some, but unfortunately, even bleaching (which is what the concrete cleaner does, basically) you're never going to get rid of ALL traces. Consider also an "acid" that eats the top layer of concrete, and follow with a sealer....

If you don't have a pressure washer, then get some Tide laundry soap (dry type) put it over the stain and wet it enough to make a paste, let it sit for a few minutes and then scrub it with a stiff brush and rinse. You may have to do it once or twice but it works well and it's safe.

If it is on asphalt then there may be little you can do. If it is on concrete then you go to wal-mart and purchase in the automotive department a product made by Castrol called Super Clean Concrete Cleaner. It works great and it is easy to use. Just follow the directions on the bottle. It comes in a gallon or in a squirt bottle. Good Luck!
