I was working in northern New Jersey the week after 9/11.

I was at the gym, and at the time I had long hair (I was a computer geek). After coming out of the shower, I had my hair wrapped in a towel, because it was long and wet.

Two big guys (I'm male, it was the mens locker room) came up behind me and in a very angry voice one said that I and all the g*d*mn towelheads should get the h*ll out of their country.

I turned around. And when they saw that I was white, they became very apologetic and walked away.

I'd can only imagine what it must be like facing that kind of anger and threat of violence, when the agressors don't immediately realize they're making a mistake and threatening an innocent person.

I've told this story to several other people. Honestly, I felt sorry for those two guys, so wrapped up in their hatred and anger that they were just looking for someone to take it out on.

I've been a victim of rascism in this country since I was 3. I had multiple occassions but here's the one I remember most. Coming back from school the day after 9/11, I had people looking at me with angry spiteful stares. Then one old guy says go back to your terrorist country and stay out of ours. Then couple girls were in front of me and my cousin and they were telling each other, let's run before we get blown up. First, I was shocked that this kind of relentless humiliation can occur to me. I was amazed and a bit angry at first, but then I let it go. I was doing very good at school and I knew that I could become better people than those people and accomplish more for this country than they can. I told my parents about the situation and they were worrying, but I told them that I don't care that they did this act of rascism towards me. I am gonna still do my own thing and I won't have this affect me achieving my goals, I'm just better than they are as a person. I don't have to stoop down to their level.
