You tell 'em Anton! I will be planting Red Bud, Japanese Maples and Crepe Myrtle (smaller trees), as I am already surrounded by huge Redwoods, Oaks, Pines, Maples, and Aspen (plus many others, here in the Sierra Nevada).

Unfortunately, I had to remove a beautiful, large Liquid Amber (aka American Elm, I think) this year, and will have to remove 2 more smaller ones next year, as their roots grow very near the surface and destroy everything in their path (i.e. my driveway, slate walkway, foundation, lawn, etc). It's a shame because they are beautiful.

When I lived in the city, their were several organizations that would give people trees for free if they did the planting- and these org's. work with the city to make sure everything they do is up to code. They often organize neighborhood tree planting "parties" if several people from the same neighborhood express an interest- and they provide some experienced labor at these events. I can't remember the names, but just google "free trees in (city name)."

Keep America Green!

I agree that trees are disappearing too quickly. about 200 acres of trees was cleared for the race track in my city (maybe it was only 100) about in 2002 i believe. now theyve taken 10 or 15 acres of elms from behind my house to make a home depot!!! well at least the home depot will sell trees for people to buy. I'm planning on starting a Mimosa farm as already stated in one of my questions. So how many hundred should i plant? Im going to see how many peat pots i can afford(once i get another job) and thatll answer my own question.

Love that site thank you. I plant trees all the time. Everytime a friend has a baby I give them a tree. I am a master gardner and really believe in trees. I have a half acre lot and 101 trees so far.

I'm glad to see your post, because Kids These Days Know.

I would never dream of planting a silver maple...the weed of trees...but I *have* planted a weeping cherry, a dwarf Japanese maple, 14 climbing rose bushes, two crepe myrtles, and several thousand dollars worth of shrubbery and perennial plants.

Hope this is enough to keep the Eco-Police away.

Oh my gosh...you are the coolest frickin person ever.
We planted a tree in our front yard years ago and its like 5 feet tall now...its growing reeeeally slow lol. But its getting there and I feel really good about having planted him :)

Unfortunately your message isn't going to get through to the hundreds of people who just REFUSE to accept that we're kiling our environment. Like some idiot above me that said that "there are trees everywhere". How retarded can someone really be??
I really feel like I should plant more trees now! Are there laws about where you can plant trees? There's no more room in our yard so I'd have to plant them on public property lol...

I plan on planting two redbud trees in the fall. I planted a viburnum and a redbud last year. Two years ago I planted a plum tree and let the birds plant an elm tree for me.
