I've always lived in a suburban environment but always wanted to live in the country. I'm a single empty-nester and want to move to a rural place within driving distance of work. Even know where. But is this unhealthy? I want peace and quiet. Is that wrong?

There is no such thing as wrong in this instance. It's your life and you should do what makes you happy; if you don't do it now when will you do it?

I bit the bullet 2 years ago, and moved from NYC to a very rural home in SC. I've never regretted my decision.

I wake up each morning and look out the window and see birds of all different colors, chirping away and looking lively.
Sometimes I wonder why I waited so long.

In my neck of the woods, you're question seems foreign. We think nothing of living alone in rural areas. It doesn't mean anything. It has no social stigmas at all. It just means we live in the country, alone. There's not anything in the least unhealthy about it. To me, if I had had to live my life in a suburbia environment, I'd be unhealthy. The peace and freedom, the joy of all that nature provides, and yet the ability to be within distance of working, is just having the best of two worlds. Go for it!

I don't think that it is wrong. I think it would be good for your health actually. Take your time in choosing where you want to live. Talk to the neighbors and try going through the prospective neighborhood at night. See how it is first before making a commitment.

if you want to commune with nature, some people just need that. But you also need to be social with people so that you don't get things like depression and most people need a sense of belonging. you would want to get a security system in case because you probably won't have close neighbors and check to make sure you cell phone works or call your cell phone company to get a signal amplifier.

I have always lived out of town and love it. You can be alone with your thoughts with the telephone just a few steps away if you want to share them with a friend.

if you have to ask, then you may kinda feel guilty for doing it...just don't seclude yourself from everyone and keep contact with people...also you may consider keeping a gun in the house
