The report on nickel production at chemlink.com.au is quite dated and incorrect. If you read it carefully you will realize that those statistics date back to 1998 or 1999 at the latest.

The New Caledonia nickel deposits are substantial, but are no longer considered the largest deposit of nickel. As of 2003 the USGS reports Russia as the largest nickel producer, with Australia, Canada, Indonesia, and New Caledonia following behind in that order. USGS also reports Australia as having the largest reserves. Australia is followed by Russia, Cuba, Canada, and Brazil in reserves.

A fairly recent discovery by Inco in Canada, the Voisey's Bay in Labrador, Canada, is now reported as the world's largest nickel deposit.

One interesting fact about nickel deposits: a number of significant nickel deposits have been found in meteorite impact craters. The Sudbury deposit in Canada, and the Morokweng Impact Crater in
South Africa, are both identified impact crater type nickel deposits. The meteorite impact is believed to have ruptured the crust allowing magmatic emplacement from the mantle.

The world's largest recoverable deposit of nickel is Sudbury, if you add past production to current reserves. Sudbury is thought to be a result of a meteorite impact.

Edit - A comment to carbonates - Voisey's Bay was discovered by Diamondfields Resources, and then purchased by Inco for CDN$ 4.3 billion. At 30 million tonnes proven reserves of Ni, it is certainly a very large and rich Ni deposit, but the total production and resource remaining at Sudbury is about 35 million tonnes Ni. I would expect the Voisey's Bay deposit to increase in size as mining and exploration proceed and ultimately pass Sudbury.

The New Caledonia and Norils'k areas each contain more nickel than Sudbury, but they are spread in dozens of deposits over several hundred square kilometers. It all depends on what you define as a "deposit."

Actually the largest deposit would be in the Earth's core!
