Forget the tie and socks. Which way do you want to turn him? Will you be around for a while and do you want him around? If so, maybe a gift certificate to someplace your mother would like him to take her but he never thinks of. Otherwise, try a gift certificate for a video or comic book store.

the post office is putting out a series of comic book hero stamps. you could by a sheet and mount them or frame them. he may want to hang it in his home or office. i would.
