Everyone needs to be careful when posting a question. It is not fair or accurate to say "democrats/liberals flip-flop on all issues." Not every liberal or democrat do, and some seldom seem to flip-flop at all. But a statement like this implies 'all''; it would be better to be specific, as I do not believe you mean "every single one.
I am not a liberal or democrat, but an independent. So I am not trying to "defend my turf." I do think that it is a characteristic of many liberal politicians to flip-flop. And I agree that it is much more common among the liberal/democratic position.
I think that many politicians flip-flop for the reason some have mentioned; personal political advantage. The one thing every politician of every stripe seems to have in common is the obsession to be re-elected. So, by publicly backing a position that is popular, the politician. But I would caution you that some conservatives do the same. But not as often.

Because they believe that everyone is entitled to an opinion and everyone has rights. Unlike neocons who are fanatical about their viewpoints and expect everyone else to either think the way they do or abide by it.

Fanatics are passionate about their beliefs and don't think or care that someone else may have a different opinion. Liberals are not as passionate, because they focus more on the fact that you have a right to believe something - than on what you actually believe in.

Because they don't want to shove their ideas and opinions down everyone else's throat, and because they don't have a passionate opinion one way or the other, they are portrayed as wishy washy.

Having said all that - I don't like any politicians. They are all corrupt and they are all out for number one. I guess it's just more important to me that the corrupt politicians at least give me the right to choose/have my own viewpoint, rather than force one on me.

ALL politicians flip-flop on issues. BTW, party politics as practiced in Europe does not exist in the USA. Here each politician has his/her own opinion about in issue. In Europe all politicians belonging to the same part must follow the party policy on all issues, this tends to reduce the "flip-flop effect".

President Bush believes human life to be sacred. This is his reason for using his presidential veto and blocking stem cell research. Yet apparently Iraqi and Lebanese lives, as well as those of American soldiers aren't sacred, cause he isn't doing anything about the wars.

Flip flop or hypocrite. Make your choice on the ballot paper.

Everyone eventually changes their opinion about SOMETHING, unless they are too thick-headed to realize that in some way, shape, or form, they have been wrong at least once. Conservatives/Republicans are just too egocentric to change their minds, or at least announce that they have. That is why both sides suck, and the key to a happy, successful life is MODERATION!

They are probably trying to look at it from both points of view, unlike Republicans/Conservatives who are so one sided.
