I don't know if you have ever heard of this but my father is an old timer and he plants his vegetables by the sign on the Raymond's calender. He says not to plant when the sign is in the bowels because the plant will bloom itself to death and not produce any vegetables. So you may have planted it in the wrong sign. My husband also believes in the signs because a locust tree is one of the hardest things to get rid of you cut it down and have 50 sprouts come back. If you cut it when the sign is in the heart it will not come back. Some believe in the quarter of the moon, what quarter the moon is in but not educated on that. Hope this helps.

the long stems with blooms usually come first, they are the males.then a squash with a bloom will come shortly after that!maybe its just too soon!the tiny squash with the blooms on its end is the female!and will have to be pollinated by the male in order to keep growing!

Squash flowers come in separate male and female blossoms. If you do not have any bees to bring the pollen from the male flower to the female flower you have to do it by hand.
So, a Q tip is a good tool to use.
If you look in the center of the blossom. the female flower resembles a female human in a way, and the male flower has a sort of male part in its center sticking out.
You know girls have innies, Boys have outies!
Take the pollen from the outie and transfer it to the innie.
It helps if you BUZZ while you do it! Kidding!

The blooms come first. But either the plant isn't getting much water, or you're eating the blossoms.

you need bees to pollinate the flower to produce the fruit. If you have no bees around, then you can take a q-tip and pollinate the plant yourself. Take pollen from one flower and transfer it to another one etc. make sure all the flowers have been pollinated.
