Rumor has it that "PrimeTime" had a 40 clocked in the 4.18 range.
Rumor is all it was though. I think there is too much emphasis put on this number.
How many times does a player take off a hand-off in their t-shirt and bike shorts and run 40 yards then stop?
If they really wanted an accurate 40 times theey should be in full pads and holding a football, because thats how it is done on the field

Sanders time was the fastest in the NFL, but the real record I believe is either a 4.0 or 4.1 in track. Just an FYI, NFL 40 times tend to be clocked wrong according to experts. That's why so many NFL players have times that compare with track-stars, yet get blown away when running with them side-by-side.

The fastest recorded 40 time was a 4.0. Deion Sanders actually ran a 4.1 at the combine just b4 joining the league but, he ran a 4.0 the previous year at FSU. There's also record of 4.0 being run in track and field but, the name(s) alludes me right now.

There is a receiver that goes to the University of Texas El Paso that ran a 4.18 in the spring this year !!!! He's a senior by the name of Johnnie Lee Higgins (6'0" 178lbs) and they say he's the fastest in the country !!!
