Im a 14 year old black girl, and Ive always wanted to learn how to skateboard b/c it seems like fun. I live in a white neighborhood, and there are a lot of skateres around. But I feel kind of intimidated because Im black (and female!) and Im afraid that people will look at m e funny?

Hey there i can kind of relate to you. My neighborhood is full of skaters. I too always wanted to skate not to be cool like veryone else BUT to have fun and do fun tricks. I understand that it is tough going out there to skate in front of all of them. I was thinking that they would stare or laugh and stuff. But i went out there and skated and nothing bad happened. When you skate it's just like biking! It's just something that everyone is welcome to do so don't be scared. Yes there are jerks out there that make fun of beginner skaters but just tell yourself that they are jerks and they don't benefit you in any way so ignore them! Get out there and SKATE!

Gone head and skate girl. Dont worry about what people think. Worrying about what ppl may think is never going to get you anywhere in life. I say go for it. Learn how to skate. Your actaully the first black person i've ever known to want to learn how to skate and im saying there's anything wrong with that. Who knoe's girl you may end up becoming one of the worls best skate boarders.

Go and skate. Don't worry what people think! Life is too short to sit on the sidelines.
