i've always been curious why people are willing to pay 60 or 70 dollars for a pair of jeans or 40 dollars for a t shirt just because of the name on them. i'm a big fan of thrift shopping, and i've bought like-new Silver jeans for 5 bucks. so why go to Abercrappie??

Because people have money to waste...I don't mind brand names, but I will never pay full price for them. Also many brand names aren't even that well made. You have to be careful that you are not just paying a lot of money because something is popular. And by the time most people think something is popular, it isn't worth having. Look at Von Dutch ( Paris wore it for about a week or so). It used to be really in, and now you can barely give the stuff away. ( I saw a 75 dollar hat that was reduced to 5 bucks and the store still couldn't sell it.)

People who buy name brand clothing do it because of 1 of these 2 things:

1: They could afford it.

2: They can't normally afford it but that's what the person wants the other people to think.

I have found Abercrombie at thrift stores for about 2 bucks in good condition. Old Navy is also good. You can get tops for 2 for $10 and it's a pretty good deal.

When I want to buy name brands NEW, I go to Carson's because they have huge sales and clothes comes in less than half of the normal price.

Its just so they can look "cool" and have the "best" but what they buy is total crap because those name brand clothes will not last longer then the generic brand. So why people pay $60 for a shirt that will last as long as a cheaper shirt is beyond me.

For teenagers, it doesnt matter. For professional adults, clothing is a status symbol. Would you want to go to a lawyer who was in jeans and a t-shirt or one in an Armani suit? Who do you think is a better lawyer. People are judged on what they look like and what clothes they wear. A poorly groomed or poorly dressed person is going to be perceived as uneducated and ignorant.

That is the society we live in.

i have no idea!! you can get the same pair of jeans that are like at american eagle at like walmart or jc penny's for alot cheaper. i think that most of the namebrand clothes are getting outragous. i go thrift shopping all the time and still get really great clothes!!! i guess that it is just because people like to waste their money and then brag about how much money that they spent for a pair of jeans to their friends. bye the ay, i think that it is totally rediculous!

lol, i agree with you in a way, but some people do it to be popular and spending money on something nice can make them feel good.
if you enjoy thrift shopping, stick to it! you can get some pretty cool stuff that even 'popular' people will be jealous of and at a great price!

I agree with you TOTALLY. People feel they have to buy a brand name item to fit in. Sure, I've gone in there before but if I would have found something somewhere else without a popular brand name on it, I'd buy it. I go for what's comfortable, not what's on the tag. I'd shop cheap any day.

I spend a lot because I like the way more expensive clothes look. They're made better, the fit is better, the don't look like the next person, and they last much longer. I personally don't like "Abercrappie". LOL I'm more of a Kenneth Cole- DKNY-Ralph Lauren-BEBE girl.

Because people think that a name on your shirt makes you cool. The media has tried to brainwash us all into thinking that a label on a shirt determines your character. Sadly, it's working.

If you have the money, why not spend it on better quality things then waste money on poor quality knock-offs? Sure, I get some of the greatest clothes at Target but I wouldn't buy my wardrobe there - I don't have to!
