Back then Japan thought of US as a sleeping Giant. China today is not a sleeping Giant but a wise calculating opportunist waiting for that right moment.

I just bought a new TV Projector on e-Bay. It was Chinese and cost me AU$600 from their Australian distributor. Its a brilliant piece of equipment. The Japanese and American equivalents cost up to AU$3000. I could buy 5 of the Chinese units for the price of 1 American ones. Why would I ‘not’ buy the Chinese one? There goes American jobs and exports. China does not need nukes to overtake America, they will do it with prices.

America already owes China $162 billion. And can't pay it back

they will never be a power, at least not for another 100 years.

they rely almost entirely on america for its economic strength i.e. military power. america is the number one buyer of goods and also its american companies providing the employment, not chinese companies.

and china's infrastructure is virtually non-existent compared to america's and even to europes, they have no heavy ship yard, no carrier forces, they are incapable of designing and building any quality fighter jets and submarines. though they have made advancments, they are still way behind america and europe.

they buy most of their military equipment from russia and have limited intercontinental missle capability.

plus their huge military force is also old and aging, their tanks are very outdated.
