Just did a search. He is alive, although the article wryly noted his career is dead.
In addition to not being able to act his way out of a poor game of charades, there was this note about a film he directed:

No he is not dead in fact he is going to be staring with Luke Wilson in the movie "Dallas" like the TV show from a long while ago. He is going to be playing JR I believe and Luke is playing Bobby.
