They are out all day, but try Burt's Bees Mosquito Spray..It's 100% natural and safe for baby and pets. It works really well.

another person asked this same question and someone named rudenski replied with this:
There are some ways to prevent mosquitoes from biting you

Wear Socks: 80% of all bites are on the ankle

Wear closed toed shoes for the same reason

Avoid Bannanas during the mosquito season: Bannanas produce a phermone that mosquitoes go ape over

Avoid sugary drinks because they also attract mosquitoes

Eat citrus. Despite being sweet, citrus does not attract mosquitoes and in fact repels them

Use essential oils' catnip and rosemary
Last year, several members of the Iowa State University Department of Entomology presented the results of a study on common catnip. Among their conclusions was the fact that an essential oil in catnip is 10 times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than potent chemicals such as DEET.

Shop around for the best buy
I would add lavender to the oil for a good aroma

Eliminate standing water in your community or at least in your neighborhood:A couple of drops of Citronella Oil, Neem Oil, or Catnip will prevent eggs from hatching.

Recycle and dispose of old tires and other containers where mosquitoes breed

Shower with unscented shampoos and laundry detergent. Strong scents attract mosquitoes.

Avoid going out in the hour after dawn and the hour before dawn. Over 80% of bites occur when the temperature is perfect for breeding in those hour after sunrise and before sunset.

I worry about it too! There is no "best" time for mosquitos. But I have found that the morning is better than the evening. I use Bounce (but you can probably use any) dryer sheets. You can rub them on yourself and kids to avoid mosquitos. I also bought one of those OFF lamps with the pads/candles so we dont have to use the spray! Ick!

During peak biting times (dawn, dusk, and early evening)

1. Try to stay inside.
2. Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when you go out.
3. Loose clothing.
4. Light colored clothing.
5. Apply insect repellent sparingly to exposed skin. An effective repellent will contain 35% DEET.
6. DEET in high concentrations (greater than 35%) provides no additional protection. Repellents may irritate the eyes and mouth, so avoid applying repellent to the hands of children.
7. When using repellents always read and follow directions for use as printed on the product.

In the dead of winter :(
Next spring, make sure there is no standing water around your house. You can salt puddles or buy one of the products on the market that kill them in the breeding phase. That may help a little. Also, where I work, we sell this product: http://www.mosquitomagnet.com/
I have heard mixed results on this but if you got some extra money, it might not be a bad investment. They are about $200 dollars. If you live in a highly dense neighborhood you may be out of luck because neighbors, especially if they are slobs, leave puddles of water around their house after the heavy winter rains.

Ultimately, your daughter will be bitten by mosquito's millions of times in her life and there isn't much you can do about it.

I think that most mosquitos are depending on the weather so it is hard to tell the best time. I would suggest getting some OFF and using a little on your baby. Just be careful not to get any in her eyes. You may also check in the children's section b/c i think they make OFF for children.

You know a Bounce dryer sheet is supposed to repel mosquito's as far as the best time of day during the day as long as your not near a lake or wooded area

In the middle of the hot days they seem to be hiding or milling about places with stagnant water. Your best bet is to give your daughter a lot of Grapefruit juice and garlic. They can smell it on you and don't like the way you taste. If she is too young for that and you are still breast feeding, then you can consume massive amounts of the two and it will pass to her. Otherwise, ask the Pediatrician if there are "OFF" type of products which are safe for young children.

I can sympathize with that one! As far as a time of day they are worst at dusk but those nasty little buggers are out there all day long. I use Burt's Bees insect repellent on my daughter and it works really well and it's all natural.
