Harry Potter uses magic, which is occult or demonic powers. And a nickname for the devil is Harry. I think if I told this to some Christian fanatic, they'd go nuts. They'd be like, "Harry is the son of the devil!" LOL.

This is just a little bit off topic, but, you know, I think if I change my name to Old Nick it'd be funny...for a minute. (If you don't get the joke, than please check out my information or details, which is right above my Q&A).

Oddly enough the very first thing that the new pope spoke about was how dangerous Harry Potter books are to the christian soul. Some christians were also upset about star wars seeing their battle between good and evil as a distortion of the bible or i don't know what.

I think that Harry Potter stories are fun and entertaining and they serve a very important purpose - igniting the imagination of the young and giving them a good reason to learn how to read. If we condemn harry potter, we might as well condemn all fiction and literature.

Peace!

Neither have I heard of Harry as a nickname for the Devil - I was going to use that name myself if I had a boy. If the author knew that, I am sure she would have considered changing it, since harry is the embodiment of good in those novels isn't he? The courageous hero following in his courageous parent's footsteps as a champion for good?
