If he is 8 months old, then go ahead and give him a sippy cup. Most peds reccomend that you give up the bottle between 12 and 15 months anyway, so it is just easier to not introduce it.
If you want to wean, I would suggest simply feeding less and less every day. Also, a lot of moms I know said that their children weaned, or lost interest at around 8-10 months. Maya did the same thing, but I kept feeding anyway, because I wanted to make it a year. but your child is at an age that he may give it up naturally in the next couple of weeks if you stop offering it, and then delay giving it to him for a few minutes whenever he asks.

If you introduce a bottle, you will have to wean him from it before too long. Introduce a sipper cup instead. Start with daytime feedings, retain the first and last feeding of the day as breastfed. Those should be the last two you switch him on, as they provide more comfort and closeness first thing of a morning and right before bed.

At 8 months I would introduce a sippy cup instead of a bottle. You can slowly switch one feeding at a time over from the breast to the sippy.
Keep in mind that the AAP recommends nursing until *at least 12 months* and that breastmilk and/or formula should continue to make up most of his diet for the first year.

Hi I'm breastfeeding my 10 month old baby too. I want to wean him too so I can work now. I started introducing him to formula bottle-feeding and breastmilk bottle-feeding. Start by giving him bottle feeds in between breastfeeding but don't quit breast feeding him abruptly. He should get familiar with the bottle first, soon he will get used to drinking his milk from the bottle. :-) Goodluck! Have patience!

I would definantly introduce a sippy cut instead of bottle. By 12 months he needs to be off both breast and bottle so don't even start with the bottle it will just make it harder in the long run. Get a soft spouted sippy and use expressed breastmilk in it until he gets the hang of it!

the best answer i can give to that is what i was told when i was breastfeeding my daughter the doctor said try alternating formula with breast milk if the child refuses the formula try mixing 2oz breastmilk 2oz formula (oz depends on childs age) basically do half and half.My daughter had a hard time with the bottle but after trying differant bottles and nipple size (simular to my own) she had no problem also watch out for acid reflux (my daughter had that after switching to formula) when the child doesnt hold the formula down she grew out of it (about 4 months old) but they will give you meds to prefent the perjectile vomiting(when the child with throw up and it shoots like a hose 3-4 feet infront of you) i found the best bottle for her with this condiction and after was doctor brown bottle they are not to exspensive if you buy them at wal*mart they cost more if you search on the net for them.Hope i could help

baby-led weaning is the way to go. your child is way way way too young to wean. introduce a bottle and you will surely mess up his nursing. he should nurse for at least two years.
marie montessori wanted moms to nurse 3 years, which is typical for primates, because babies are so terribly damaged by day care, she wanted to make sure mommies stayed with babies for the minimum amount of time necessasry - 3 years.
Mommies should not separate from babies for more than the briefest periods of time. More than 10 hours a week before age one is extremely damaging. Day care before 5 is damaging to a chlid's intellect, social skills, physical health.
because breastfeeding produces oxytocin, it prepares moms better for all the giving.

This is the best suggestion you'll ever get:
Put a little vinegar on you breast about where the baby's nose will be. Just a little.
They will think your milk has gone sour and stop wanting it.
You may want to wait a little more though. we did this with my first girlfriend's daughter Jennifer, she never wanted Mama's milk again. But she was 14 months old at the time.

If you havent given him a bottle of expressed breastmilk by now, he wont take a bottle. You need to try a sippy cup...he is old enough...start with expressed breastmilk and then start adding some formula (ex: 1 part formula/3 parts breastmilk) gradually decrease the amount of breastmilk and increase the amount of formula until his whole bottle is formula.

Do not introduce bottle. he will prefer this to the breast! A bottle is faster and makes him fuller. And he will stop nursing altogether.
I would introduce sippy cup instead, at a time he would usually nurse...and you do not want to give him the cup. He will learn.
